Reporting to the President/CEO, the CCIO oversees all philanthropic and programmatic strategy. About the Foundation
Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) is the official business name of Valley Hospital Association, Inc., which owns Mat-Su Regional Medical Center (MSRMC) in joint venture with Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHS). In this capacity, MSHF board members and representatives actively participate in the governance of Mat-Su’s community hospital to protect the community’s interest in this important healthcare institution.
Apart from its role as a community hospital co-owner, MSHF is also a grant-making philanthropy organization. Grounded in organizational values of prevention, access, wellness, fairness, equity, and collaboration, the MSHF mission is to improve the health and wellness of Alaskans living in the Mat-Su. Through grantmaking, convening of local partners, and policy change, the Foundation’s work has resulted in significant improvements in systems that support the health of Mat-Su residents in areas such as behavioral health, child welfare, crisis response, community connections, workforce development, transportation, housing, and senior services.

Position Summary
TheChief Community Impact Officer (CCIO)is a mission-critical executive role responsible for translating the Foundation’s bold vision for health equity into measurable community outcomes across the Mat-Su. Reporting to the President/CEO, the CCIO oversees all philanthropic and programmatic strategy, leads high-performing teams including Connect Mat-Su and R.O.C.K. Mat-Su, and aligns cross-sector initiatives with MSHF’s epidemiological, data-informed approach. This leader will partner closely with local stakeholders, drive systems change, and represent the Foundation at the board, community, and national levels. Ideal candidates will bring deep expertise in public health, philanthropy, and community-rooted leadership, along with a passion for equity, local impact, and place-based innovation in Alaska.

Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision

• Lead the execution of MSHF’s long-term vision by aligning philanthropic investments, programs, and initiatives with the Foundation’s strategic plan and Theory of Change.
• Serve as a senior advisor to the President/CEO and a core member of the Executive Leadership Team, fostering a culture of strategic clarity, adaptability, and community accountability.
• Integrate organizational learning, public health data, and community input to drive continuous improvement and population-level impact.
• Ensure programmatic and philanthropic synergy with the Foundation’s role as co-owner of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, aligning with compliance requirements under the Affordable Care Act.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

• Cultivate deep, trust-based relationships with local leaders, nonprofit partners, tribal entities, and cross-sector collaborators to catalyze systems-level change.
• Act as a visible and authentic ambassador of MSHF in the Mat-Su Valley and across Alaska, maintaining a strong community presence and listening-first approach.
• Collaborate with the President/CEO and Chief Communications Officer to translate complex community health outcomes into accessible, values-driven messaging that reflects lived realities.
• Represent MSHF in local, state, and national forums, conferences, and advocacy spaces—bringing community voice into larger public health, equity, and philanthropic conversations.

Program Oversight & Team Management

• Lead a high-performing team that includes the Directors of Community Partnerships, Connect Mat-Su, R.O.C.K. Mat-Su, Data & Impact, and Senior Program Officers for grantmaking and scholarships.
• Oversee and monitor a $30M programmatic budget, including stewardship of transformational gifts and $4M in scholarships.
• Facilitate alignment and collaboration across program areas to drive shared success, strategic cohesion, and long-term sustainability.
• Establish effective policies, workflows, and capacity-building strategies to support innovation and mission-aligned growth.

Governance & Board Engagement

• Serve as staff liaison to the Program Committee and Health Equity Committee of the Board of Directors.
• Prepare strategic updates and analysis that support clear, informed governance decisions.
• Ensure timely, transparent, and data-informed communication between programmatic efforts and the Board.
• Support the Board’s role in guiding equity strategy, community investment, and overall mission execution.

Equity, Culture & Impact Measurement

• Champion health equity as a core operational and strategic value, ensuring it is embedded across all programs, policies, and funding approaches.
• Co-lead internal DEI strategy in collaboration with the COO, while mentoring staff in inclusive leadership and culturally responsive practice.
• Oversee the development and application of impact measurement tools in partnership with the Director of Data & Impact, leveraging qualitative and quantitative insights to inform decision-making.
• Foster a culture of belonging, reflection, and equity-centered learning across the organization and within the communities served.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 10 years of progressive experience in philanthropy, health systems, or the nonprofit sector, with a demonstrated ability to lead complex programs and center community needs in strategy design and execution.
• Proven experience managing and developing high-performing teams, overseeing large-scale budgets, and guiding cross-functional work aligned to organizational vision and values.
• Deep understanding of public health principles, systems change, and upstream interventions, with a strong commitment to epidemiological and data-informed approaches.
• Demonstrated success working with or as a grantee, with lived or professional experience navigating funding landscapes and applying for institutional support.
• Ability to center grantees and community voice in decision-making, strategy, and measurement of impact.
• Effective at building and sustaining trust-based partnerships across sectors—government, tribal, nonprofit, and healthcare—and adept at translating between institutional and grassroots perspectives.
• Experience working with diverse populations and coalitions on complex health and social issues; knowledge of the Mat-Su region and Alaska context strongly preferred.
• Strong strategic, political, and programmatic thinking, with the ability to synthesize information, simplify complexity, and act decisively on community-informed insight.
• Skilled in analyzing and interpreting organizational budgets, financial reports, and funding portfolios; familiarity with stewarding large-scale philanthropic investments is highly valued.
• Demonstrated experience working with Boards of Directors or governance bodies to inform policy, investment strategy, and organizational direction.
• A proven record of fostering inclusive, equity-centered practices and organizational culture, including facilitation of internal DEI initiatives and community advocacy work.
• Expertise in collective impact models and/or cross-sector alignment strategies preferred.
• Master’s degree in public health, public administration, social work, or a related field preferred—or equivalent senior-level leadership experience in related fields.

Work environment: Employee will be working in a typical office environment with offices, moderate temperature, and equipment noise.

Physical demands: Employee will be spending considerable time at a desk using a computer terminal and traveling to various locations in the community.
