As the Head of E&S Casualty, Wholesale Solutions you will own the P&L and set strategy and direction for the team in support of the Region’s and broader organization’s goals. You will build and manage a team of technical underwriting professionals supporting the development, execution, and marketing of Wholesale Casualty products.
What you’ll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Develop and successfully implement strategic plans to deliver profitable growth of the wholesale E&S Casualty portfolio by delivering on all four of our strategic drivers: solutions that matter most, valued beyond the policy, data that deepens relationships and focused; fit and fast.
- Leadership of our E&S casualty portfolio, with ultimate responsibility for the growth and profitability of the portfolio
- Design and implementation of our underwriting appetite and go to market strategy across both primary and excess products
- Collaboration and alignment with the broader AXA XL organization on the creation of our product storefront
- Leadership of the E&S casualty underwriting team, including the formation of a strategy and structure that supports our business goals
- Provide strategic direction and data driven decisions for your team on risk assessment and portfolio management to drive underwriting excellence, profitable growth, and optimizing our performance.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to inform strategic decision-making.
- Work closely with support teams (E.g. Claims, Marketing, Pricing, Compliance) to ensure a cohesive approach to service delivery and product offerings.
- Prepare and present cohesive reports to senior leadership on performance, market conditions, and strategic initiatives.
- Foster a culture of innovation within the underwriting team and across the organization to proactively address emerging risks and leverage new technologies.
- Set individual objectives, reviewing performance / appraisals, and providing on-going feedback on a continuous basis so that all colleagues are aware of what they are required to achieve and how they are performing against their objectives.
- Build and promote AXA XL’s brand, underwriting, risk services, claims and client experience leadership in the external insurance market.
- Align the underwriting proposition with the Company’s brokers and clients / develop new relationships within the market to increase production and profit for AXA XL.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; professional designations CPCU, ARM preferred.
- Extensive experience underwriting E&S casualty business, both primary and excess, across multiple product lines including general casualty, products liability, energy, and construction
- Broad relationships and connectivity with the casualty wholesale brokerage market
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing teams, and proven ability to recruit and lead high performing teams
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Attract and develop technical and leadership strength on the team at all levels.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $250,000 to $300,000 USD.
Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
